Flowers against lonliness
From 11 January 2016 Danes may have the good luck of finding one of a total of 1,000 flower bouquets that the Danish Red Cross in collaboration with Interflora has spread around in highways and byways in Denmark. This is to mark the start of a campaign against loneliness.
In Denmark, more than 200,000 people are lonely. The Danish Red Cross has established a very important voluntary visitor service with voluntary visitors making regular visits to 7,450 lonely people every year. Today, there are 5,100 Red Cross visitors in Denmark - and several of them visit more than one person. Many more are needed as the waiting list to receive a visit is still long.
Therefore, the Danish Red Cross and Interflora have joined forces in a common "Flowers against loneliness" campaign to recruit more voluntary visitors - but also to make the period of waiting easier by using Interflora's special competence to send greetings in the form of flowers and other gifts. The campaign starts on Monday 11 January 2016 and ends on Sunday 17 January as regards the placing of the 1,000 bouquets. The campaign will continue throughout 2016, however.
"The campaign is a natural extension of the mission of Interflora to be the leading supplier of emotional greetings in Denmark and we are proud that all 450 shops in our chain support the initiative," says Søren Flemming Larsen, CEO of Interflora.
Where can you help?
The campaign will be launched on 11 January 2016 when 1,000 fresh bouquets of flowers will be spread around the country with a small card pointing out the joy of receiving flowers and how flowers and considerateness can make a big difference to many lonely Danes. The intention is that those who find the bouquet can either bring it home to create joy for themselves or pass it on to somebody that they think needs a little extra care.
Until the turn of the year it is possible to give a donation to the work against loneliness of the Danish Red Cross in Interflora's shops.
In addition to this, it will be possible to buy special Red Cross bouquets at interflora.dk where DKK 20 without any deductions is paid to the Danish Red Cross. A bouquet will cost DKK 200.
”We are happy to be part of the campaign against loneliness and we hope that you will all help the Danish Red Cross and Interflora make a difference as regards a problem that we should not have in a country like Denmark,” says Søren Flemming Larsen, CEO of Interflora.
Loneliness is an increasing problem.
”We are very grateful for the collaboration with Interflora. More than 200,000 Danes are lonely and something must be done about that. Together with Interflora we will increase the focus on loneliness - and via specific initiatives give Danes an opportunity to support our visiting services. A small effort made by somebody can make a big difference to a lonely person who receives a visit or a bouquet of flowers as a greeting", says Hanna Line Jakobsen, President of the Danish Red Cross.
Everybody can become lonely and it is a problem that is faced by people of all age groups. This means that there is a long list of different people who want to get a visit from one of the Red Cross visitors.
